Odd moment while watching the news tonight. Part of the story was a girl of three or four going to pre-school, completely crushed when her dad dropped her off and drove away in his truck.

Mom: "Poor thing. She looks like he's leaving her alone forever instead of just for the day."

Me: "Well, y'know, when you're that age, you say bye to Dad and for all you know you're never gonna see him again."

::Very very long uncomfortable pause as we both realize that that's exactly what happened to me.::

Me (brightly): "So! This is good macaroni."

I can't remember which dad I told that particular lie about, though I imagine it would've been Dad II. Dad I was, by all accounts, extremely fussy about food.
