Odd moment while watching the news tonight. Part of the story was a girl of three or four going to pre-school, completely crushed when her dad dropped her off and drove away in his truck.

Mom: "Poor thing. She looks like he's leaving her alone forever instead of just for the day."

Me: "Well, y'know, when you're that age, you say bye to Dad and for all you know you're never gonna see him again."

::Very very long uncomfortable pause as we both realize that that's exactly what happened to me.::

Me (brightly): "So! This is good macaroni."

YOU KILLED DAD?!? YOU COW!!!

Awww. It wasn't really sad, it was just...very weird. Kind of like that one bit in the dinner scene in High Anxiety.

Doh! it was my fault. my bad!

i don't remember High Anxiety (apart from when he's hanging from the rafters and yelling-- my parents! my parents! story of my life), but i know that feeling very well. i think i said something about wanting to kill someone right after a co-worker got back from bereavement leave.

Me? Sensitive? nah.

Let's just say I learned the hard way that when a co-worker shows up in a really nice suit, asking "Who died?" is only funny on TV.

There's a bit in the dinner scene where one of the characters makes a sort of meta remark, and the whole cast kind of look sideways at the camera, then return to their meal.
