Saw a chunk of X-Men last night. It's gonna be one of those movies that everybody likes but me, isn't it? Something really creepy and repulsive about the whole thing, starting with the pubic hair glued to Wolverine's face. There's something really wrong with any X-adaptation where I like Cyclops best, y'know?

I liked the guys (I'm apparently obligated to like Mr. Gandalf McKellan in everything), hated the portrayal of Storm with a passion, and was meh on Jean, for whom I've never really cared anyway.

But it scarred me that I actually liked Cyclops. I've never liked him in his comic form. Damn Brian Singer for making Cyc lickable likeable! Damn him to hell!

Well, quite. Magneto was coolies, but I wanted to hit Professor X's smug smarmy bald head with a blunt object, and that just ain't right. Storm was Blandie McBlandington from Blandesville, Jean looked like everybody's mom, and Wolverine Tried Real Hard. I've never liked Sabretooth, so it didn't bug me so much that he was about as menacing as a member of ZZ Top.

It does, however, explain a lot about the bizarro-ass show that is Mutant X.

I'm not sure what to make of the fact that on Mutant X, being a mutant automatically means being gay. Condemnation or celebration? Either way, it's flaaaaaaaming.

Or maybe I just need someone to remove the slash goggles. Anyone want em? You can have them cheap.

My other problem with X-Men movieverse is, natch, the fandom. Wolverine/Rogue does nothing for me. I don't mind OTPing when you've got a sense of humor about it, but most W/R shippers that I've run across are as bad as Stargate S/Jers. Then, of course, there's the potential for flamewars based on adherence to comic "canon," which is a notion so laughable that I can barely stop from choking on my hysterics.

But now we're back to the land of my own pet peeves, and I'll stop blathering about them in your poor defenseless LJ. X-Men movie = okay, with some really really good bits and some suckage. Alan Cumming and Ian McKellen together in the sequel = I may spontaneously combust in the theater.

I hadn't noticed enough character development on Mutant X to tell if anybody was gay or not. I stay up for the first sighting of The Villanous Doctor Warhol[TM] and then fuck off to bed. So, good to know.

X-Men fans and a sense of humor are like matter and anti-matter. They cannot combine, and attempting to force it will destroy the universe. Also: Dude, Rogue is like 12 in the movie! Squick!

Oh, blather away. It's what I live for.

They are mostly pretty lacklustre. I haven't seen the sequel yet, but on first impression Nightcrawler seemed so much cooler than in the cartoon. ;)

Old PS probably took too much characterisation from STTNG. ;)
