Thread cutter. It's a small medallion about the size of a half-dollar with an inch-long stick out one side. Bronze-y pot metal with flowers, notched on the circumference, concealing a wicked circular razor blade. When you need to cut your thread, hold it to one of the notches and it slices neat as you please. Stick the nub in your current spool, or thread it on a cord to hang on your neck.

You can run around the house with it and not get yelled at.

Sure beats cutting thread with nail-clippers.

And I lost my nail-clippers anyway. Where do I get one of these??

Fabric store, usually with the quilting stuff, about six bucks. Here's a picture:

I have one of those, too! It's a bit smaller than yours. I got it to take on airplanes because I like to do crewel-work and they won't let you carry embroidery scissors any more.

I was wondering about that myself. Will they let you take your needles?

I haven't had anyone object so far, but on the last couple of trips I was carrying a piece of needlepoint so I just had blunt tapestry needles with me. I suppose there's a chance they might balk if you were taking something big, like #10 sharps.
