How the fuck do you figure capital gains tax on 30-year-old stock that was a gift and has split 300 times and was sold to an entirely different company?

You find the average price of the stock over the past 20 years, and then use that as the basis price of the shares.

At least that's what I had to do with my multiple purchase dividend reinvestment issue.

Go to company website. They list the price on Dec 31 each year. In their investor info section.

Average. You can be fuzzy about the 20 years if in your interest.

If not on the website, call them, and speak to investor relations.
