And then the Evil Mirror Universe Charles Williams (and the other Inklings) turned up in a Doctor Who novel a year or two back, Mad Dogs and Englishmen. He encourages Tolkien to finish his grand fantasy epic about dogs. The cover is neon pink and has a white Standard Poodle holding a revolver.
Books like this are the reason I find it hard to appreciate Stargate and Smallville.
Winter's coming, so I hope to get some more Williams under my Hanes Her Way.

I have a hard time with Williams' prose, but I really liked his poems on Taliessin and King Arthur and the Grail. I also occasionally take a crack at his theological writing. I should try his novels again--I may have matured enough to really appreciate them.

Date: 2004-10-20 11:00 am (UTC)Williams' poetry seems to be still in print (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0802815782/qid=1098295037/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/002-8314178-6352839?v=glance&s=books), though a used bookstore is probably as good a bet as Amazon. It's all about Taliessin (also spelled "Taliesin"), King Arthur's court poet, and the unity of pagan wisdom with Christianity, and the Grail, and stuff. Deep, but also rathre shiny.
