Stuffed

Brown, as it turns out, is a handsome copper color when clean. (The same as Chomsky Sauron, for those of you who've met her.) Two bags of stuffing later, he is twice as fluffy, weighs half as much, and now has - who knew? -- a pointy snout and an actual butt. There is some seam strain damage at the feet and paws, which will have to be patched. I'm not sure what I'll do about his missing eye. I'd like him to have a monocle, but I'm not sure how to go about it. I'm making him a nightshirt and cap in bright blue.

White seems to feel better about the whole business, seeing his friend revitalized, but I'm still not looking forward to slicing him open.

Yay Copper-brown bear!

Could you maybe glue some kind of tiny clear plastic rings to the inner edge of the back side of the monocle, then sew through those rings with a few stitches into the bear to hold the monocle in place?

The glue won't hold. (Trust me on this.) The difficulty isn't so much in the attachment as in the finding and/or making the monocle. But something will turn up.

Maybe you could take a pair of teddy bear/doll glasses and cut out one of the lenses? Maybe Mr. Google has some ideas.

I can't remember if monocles have a frame around them, or are just the lens. Build-a-Bear has round glasses that (with a tin snip or wire cutter to get rid of the unwanted parts of the frame) *might* somehow work.

Oh, btw, I could go to Build-a-Bear next week if you want the glasses -- I'm getting a ride to the high-rent-district Kinko's near there -- and pick them up for you, then mail 'em first class, if it'll save you postage.

Aw, thanks, but no. I think the BAB stuff is too small for him (he's 2-3 feet tall), and I'd just as soon find something all unexpected like. ;)
