Heee! They're named for Peggy and Alan Bialosky, who wrote a book circa 1980 called The Teddy Bear Catalogue for Workman. This was spun into a line of bears, books, calendars, figurines, etc. that still continues, though it is no longer at its peak. The Teddy Bear Calendar still comes out every year. Some of the stuff is really cool and charming, some of it makes me want to fwow up. I have a nifty old coffee mug of the Bialosky Bear logo, with its motto "100% Loyal and True," which I will love until the inevitable day that I drop it on cement.

Usedtabe a great shop in Quincy Market, Boston, before it became the ultra-chiiiique haunt of brainless white folks. Called Bear-Something...never mind about that. Great bumper sticker with grizzly bear doing black pride salute, reading SUPPORT YOUR RIGHT TO ARM BEARS. Dearly wanted one, but no point, as had neither car nor license at that point.
