Dear Ann:

Stop arguing with the cat. You know it's pointless when he's in that mood.

Your pal,

Ann

It's not like a cat'll listen to anyone. Stubborn gits.

Well of course not. Cat only listen when it's about them and only half the time at that. Selfish creatures. It's all about them.

Word!

You are really as dog-mad and cat-averse as I am? Wow and hurray!

That would be a big woof! in affrimative.

Of course, part of that is fueled by being allergic to cats. (Well, technically the dander, but let's just call it "cats".)

I'm slightly allergic to dogs _and_ cats... but cats are such bitches about it, _both_ underfoot and in face. Then snooty too? Me, I'll take a dog (or a snake, or bunny, or, or)any day over a...

*eyedart* Bet I'm cruisin' for some *klongs* again, here...

Those damn cats, so contrary. They know I'm allergic so naturally I'm the person in the room they run to. The only cat who won't have anything to do with me is Dana (a friends cat). I rescued her, gave her a name and a good home, and Dana that damned ungrateful kitty won't have anything to do with me. The bitch.

No. Ted is the imaginary cat. This was with Silas, the bookstore cat. He likes to be petted, but prefers that it be done in the horrible chair in the tiny claustrophobic low-ceilinged basement. He sits at the top of the rickety stairs and yells at me because I won't go down there. I point out that there are any number of chairs on the first floor, and that I will even pick him up and carry him if he likes, but that no, I will not go in the goddamn basement.

Sometimes he sees the reasonableness of this, and acquiesces. Other times he does not, and I yell at him in a Cartmanesque fashion. Either way, Kat and Cinnamon, the bookstore managers, are amused to see him abuse someone else for a change.

I don't blame you for not wanting to follow him into the basement-- he probably just wants you to come down so he can club you and take your wallet.
My cat Gabby is always trying to get me to follow her (rather than just pet her where ever we happen to be) too. I think for cats like that it's less about the pettings and more about the control of getting a hy00man to follow them around as they wander aimlessly. Cats are such bastards.
