I've done something really horrible.

I've...oh jesus...I've been buying records at Wal-Mart. I'm sorry but HEAR ME OUT, OKAY? I hate going there. But they're the only place in town that carries any J-Pop. At all. And they're really cheap. I'm talking $8-$12, as opposed to $15-$25 anywhere else, and no shipping.

I know it's bad. I know. I know I'll pay for it in the end.

I'm not sorry. Just kind of appalled.

Wal-Mart as Jpop? You've got to be kidding me? What stuff have you found?

But, you know, if that's the only place in town to find jpop, then it is forgivable. As long as you don't enjoy shopping there.

Mostly the Tofu Records line -- couple of Japan for Sales and J-Pop CDs, the l'Arc-en-Ciel with the smiley face, the Goovers. They also have some Korean and Chinese stuff, though it looks more, um, Dean Martin-y, with people in evening clothes. Buncha Reggae. And there's an entire aisle devoted to music en Espanol.

This is as opposed to Best Buy, who thinks "World Music" means "Cuba," and the local indie chain Homer's, which endorses bagpipery and throat singing.

Good haul. I don't even have the Goovers yet. If you ever find the first Japan for Sale, get me a copy 'cause that thing is nowhere.

Yeah, Best Buy here has a massive Music en Espanol section. I cry at their World Music section...the most "international" thing they sell is Twelve Girls Band. *sob*

Actually, the place with the best selection of World Music, other than Amazon, is Borders. Which is really great except their CDs start at $16.98. Unless I have a coupon, I never buy there. I just scan the shelves for ideas and order with Amazon.

Amazon doesn't even list the first Japan For Sale, and I've never seen a copy. The only place I know that ever carried it was Wizzywig (they were planning a release party one year when we were there). Maybe the Tofu Records web site has it. Hell, maybe Wizzywig still does...

I suppose I could look at B&N's record department, but yeah, that whole price thing. Which makes me a giant weenie-ass, since the actual import titles go for, what, $40?

Curse you, typesetters!

I'm full of shit. "Goover" is the name of the album, by High and Mighty Color. Well worth having.

And Japan for Sale comes from Sony; it was the first J-Pop CD that had a release party at Wizzywig. Probably.

This is where I reminisce about how, in my day, you had to /hope/ you caught that guy coming back from a merchandise trip to Japan before he sold out of your geek-cred increasing album, because he probably only bought two.

But seriously, J-Pop in Wal-Mart? Wow.

What the...they have Jpop at Walmart? Well now you've not only shopped there, but enticed me to do the same.

I bought a My Little Pony dvd there, so I'm already a horrible person.

*pets* It's okay. You had J-pop and J-horror to resist - nobody could do it.

We gave my husband's pension to Ken Lay - well, if by "gave" you mean "motherfucker fucking stole that shit."

Hee! I will never think of Mr. Clean Magic Erasers the same way again.

My icons are featuring Alan Davies, who is totally in love with Stephen Fry on the quiz show they do together, which is called QI... and also Alan Davies was in 'Jonathan Creek,' have you ever seen that? It's great.

Here is a YouTube video of part of the first episode of QI, which has Hugh Laurie in it. :D

Another thing Wal-Mart has are super-cheap (like, $1) DVDs of awful, awful, awful Korean anime-ripoff cartoons. SEE! Someone who looks like Amuro Rei dress up like Char Aznabul! SEE! Incomprehensible montages of vaguely Mazinger Z-ish looking robots fighting each other! They're like someone took bad fan art and animated them.
