After enduring [livejournal.com profile] heykidzcomix' incessant nagging*, I found the Brisco County DVD set last night. Watched the pilot with commentary. I am a better human being now.

Mom had a giant girlcrush on Dixie Cousins, and it's hard to blame her. She also always felt it necessary to point out that Brisco's dad was buried on a hill "for the drainage," then cackle like a fiend. Strange woman.

So far, the best thing is learning that the Rocket Car was a functioning vehicle that could shoot 30-foot jets of flame. Carlton Cuse volunteered to ride it back to the roundhouse after shooting, which must surely have been the best thing ever.

*She said, "Hey, did you get it?" The NERVE!

I loved that show. My stepdaughter had a crush on Bruce Campbell. *g* I liked it because it was a sci-fi Western and it was funny, and I love sci-fi Westerns, which is why I wanted to love Firefly and just... couldn't, quite.

Firefly loves itself, a lot. Brisco loves us.

Speaking as a Firefly fan...yeah, that's pretty much true.

Ah, it is terrible that everybody keeps talking about the new DVDs! I've never seen a single episode before, and yet I am still sorely tempted to buy it. Carlton Cuse is an insane genius and I do love him so, but ahhh he is going to become an expensive habit. Perhaps I'll wait and see if the price goes down and then maybe check it out...

See if you can rent one or two of the individual discs to see if you like it. By then, it should start being available used.

Also, I might have asked you this before, but I'm not quite sure so I'm asking you again: Where did you get your Sailor Moon dvds? I ask because I seemed to have renewed by love of it as of late, and after trying and somewhat succeeding at tracking down the manga I want to try rewatching the anime.

*needs a Sailor Saturn icon badly*

They came off Amazon (used and new), local shops, and deepdiscountdvd.com -- except for the Sailorstars box, which came from http://www.animecollector.com/ and is highly illegal. I'd feel bad about this if there was a Region 1 release, but I doubt we'll get one until the first-generation SM fans grow up and demand it, as the 80s cartoon fans have done for their She-Ra and Transformers.

The other seasons have uncut U.S. releases, but it's my understanding that they're out of print. So you're limited to store stock and the secondary market. :(

Balls. Still I figured it would be something like that. I know with that manga is out of print and Tokyopop wants to do a reprint, but all the distribution rights for the SM manga are tied up at the moment because Takeuchi is having a tiff with TOEI. Since my copies got thrown out years ago (to my regret) I've tried locating scans online, to some success.

Heck, I guess you could call me a first generation SM fan, seeing as how it was my introduction to anime and all. I want DVDs! I demand it!

*crickets*

Still animecollector.com looks good, I guess I'll add the dvds to my Christmas and Birthday wish lists. :3

If they do a reprint, I hope they do a complete remastering. Those early volumes are horrid.

Nagging?

NAGGING?!

I'll show you nagging!

I wish I could afford the damn thing. Alas, I don't have $65 to spend right now. Oh well, maybe Christmas.

Stop that! *slapaslapaslapaslapaslap*

I've stopped reading 5goddamned2, so I figure it'll pay for itself by Christmas. Yeah. That's it.

I've only seen scans of 52, but that sounds like as good a justification as any.

THERE ARE FIFTY-TWO PEOPLE YOU SHOULD WATCH OUT FOR AND THE CLOCKS WERE STOPPED AT 11:52 AND THERE ARE 52 VEILS OF HEAVEN AND 52 HAIRS IN RALPH'S SPOOKY BEARD AND BY THE WAY DID WE MENTION 52 IS AN IMPORTANT RECURRING NUMBER?

It's like they thought that the ratings would go through the roof if Jack Bauer had to fight two dozen terrorists with two dozen different chemical and biological weapons in four and a score exotic Midwestern locations. Comics: not just for kids! Also for stupids!

I just know that the History of the DCU backups filled me with a sort of despairing rage. And Wonder Girl and Superboy-Dead suck.
