Bejeweled, which may be spelled with more Ls than that, has several samplers of other games. Tonight I tried one called Insaniquarium (don't oversell it or anything, Marketing Department). You get an aquarium, with a couple of goldfish. You feed the fish. The fish crap coins. You catch the coins to buy more fish food and more fish.

Then a chibi Alien teleports in and tries to kill everything, and you have to blast it to bits. You may also accidentally kill one of the fish with friendly fire.

If you don't feed the goldfish in a timely manner, they turn green, die, and sink to the bottom of the tank. Naturally, they also stop crapping money. However, if the fish live long enough, they turn blue, wear little crowns, and start crapping diamonds.

So, really, the kind of realism you normally only get in, say, a high-end WWII combat sim.

I'd say that I want back all the time I have wasted feeding those goddamned fish, but I'd be lying.

a friend of mine got an impressive screenshot from insaniquarium. his screen was full of the preggers goldfish or seahorses or whatever and the little gold catchers. blew my mind.

I think Bejewelled was incompatible with my red-blindness. (I couldn't tell the blue things from the purple things because I was missing the red part of the purple.)

Maybe I could more luck with the weirdo spin offs. Unless they are lazy and reused the same colors.

Go to Popcap's site - they have free trial downloads of a lot of stuff, and you can see if anything's compatible. I tried Zuna, and it's nifty, but pretty much requires precise color vision (you have to match tiny balls by firing them out of a...spinning...uh, spinning frog I SWEAR IT MAKES SENSE IN CONTEXT). I don't think Insaniquarium does.

I should uninstall Bejeweled. The music is pompous and makes me cross.
