"Elmo is Grover for a new generation, although that generation is made up entirely of stupid children."

I find it insanely ridiculous that the box sets of Sesame Street (Old School) carry a disclaimer that the programs from 1969-79 "may not be entirely suitable for today's preschoolers."

1. Awesome JL icon. Best episode ever.

2. I don't know whether your comment makes me angry or sad. Maybe a little of both.

...wait, what's the "unsuitable" parts?

The 'unsuitable' parts are:

1) Kermit and a letter (a 'W', I think) getting into a slap fight.

2) A small child lost on Sesame Street being taken home by Gordon so they can contact her family.

Honest.

Maligned as they are, I never run out of reasons to be glad I was a small child in the 1970s instead of now.

The main thing my 18 year old students are missing is a a sense of humor. you have no idea how glad I am that I grew up with the unsuitable behavior of Muppets in the 1970s.

Because a frog and a letter slap fighting is funny, dammit.

Also, Cookie Monster eating his pipe after presenting Monsterpiece Theatre. Because obviously that would influence children to eat pipes.

I loved Elmo when he first appeared on Sesame Street. Later, I wanted to kill him with a tire iron.

@hawkmoth -- it's a wonder that any of us survived the early years of Sesame Street...what with all the sex and violence they featured (apparently omitted from the DVD set).

I want that on a t-shirt with a picture of Grover. Fantastic!
