Ishmael and Queequeg sign on board the whaling ship Pequod (Queequeg gets paid more). As they head to the ship, Elijah turns up again and makes more thinly-veiled prophecies of DOOOOOM! Captain Day Player pilots the ship out of harbor. Ishmael gives us a short obituary for another day player - who isn't in fact dead - but we all know this isn't going to turn out well. No sign yet of Patrick Stewart, but Captain Day Player assures us he'll be just fine when it's time for him to come out of his cabin. Honest. He's much better. We meet the first mate, Mr Starbuck. Ishmael begins what looks to be a long defense of whalers and their personal habits. Ann turns the light off.

Ishmael explains why whalers are great guys, while Ann skips a few pages until something actually happens. We are introduced to the Pequod's mates, Starbuck, Stubb, and...the other one. Steve. Yeah, Steve. Ahab finally comes out of his cabin. Ishmael admires his ivory leg. Ahab verbally abuses and kicks Stubb, or possibly Steve, who has bad dreams as a result but decides that being kicked with an ivory leg is a positive thing. Somehow. Ishmael tells us all about whales, but disputes the notion that whales are not fish. Ann skips more pages. Ishmael likes the weather.
