I learned that for the past 40 years, I have been holding my fork incorrectly. I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to anyone I have ever eaten with.

Wool felt (not crappy craft felt) is lovely to work with. I made a red-and-gold ball last night (it will eventually be a Soviet satellite) using a pattern from an old Dover book. It's as round as round can be. I can make a Gema when I've found the right yellow.

Finished Hello Treebeard. Mom said, "Is that the log that the Log Lady carries around?" "Yes. Yes, it is."

Hm. Log...

It's log, it's log!
It's big, it's heavy, it's wood!
It's log, it's log!
It's better than bad, it's good!

Um, sorry, flashbacks there.

You made a HELLO TREEBEARD? I instantly crave it.

Yay gemamaking

I would be incredibly grateful for a pointer to the book (if it's still in print) or a scan of the pattern (if it's not).

It's still in print at a reasonable price, and available used (in Dover's usual bulletproof binding) for even less:

The ball pattern I used is six pieces. There's also one in four pieces (not as round, the author warns) and (I think) eight pieces. I did the six-piece ball traced straight from the book, and the end result is about the size of a cantaloupe or biggish grapefruit.

A bunch are going to MediaWest next month. The MWest art market being what it is, however, I don't doubt for a moment that I'll be hauling most of them home for eBayage. Or kindling.

i wish very much that you would post pictures of these wonderful exciting things you make. have you made any plushie ringwraiths? i would kill to see a plushie of him. It would embarass him immensely, and for a very long time, that was one of my main occupations in life. ::Snickers.::

And now I will run, just in case he heard me say so. ::winces.::

I'm photographing them, but the rolls take friggin' forever to fill up. Expect a clot of 20-30 pictures at some vague point in the future.

I've considered a Wraithie several times, but can't quite figure out how to make it interesting yet. Watch this space.

How is it possible to hold a fork wrong? As long as it can stab eyeballs food, it seems fine to me.
